In today’s “Huh?” news…..
When asked about his athletic gift, he didn’t do the usual “god gave me this gift” speech, nor the ever popular “I trained till I dropped”. No Michael went scientific on us. He said:
All my life I believed I became an athlete through my own determination, but it’s impossible to think that being descended from slaves hasn’t left an imprint through the generations.”He added, “Difficult as it was to hear, slavery has benefited descendants like me — I believe there is a superior athletic gene in us.”
Wow. *blank stare*. Wow. *thoughtful stare at quote*
Did he really break it down like that? He may be the first athlete EVER to say what many of us think privately about the athletic prowess of Black athletes.
But here is where he is wrong. Africans were chosen as the best slaves BECAUSE of their physical abilities and mental strength … These abilities were NOT the result of slavery.
So yea, Michael. We see what you were trying to say … But think it out a bit better next time. Slavery did not MAKE world class athletes. That ability is in the genes baby.
